House swaps work better on paper.
A place to swap homes. No fees. No middleman.
What is DIY House Swap
DIY House Swap is a community built to help homeowners and travelers connect and arrange temporary swaps.
That might be a house-for-house swap, a home for a campervan or boat, house-sitting services in exchange for accommodation, or another arrangement that works for both sides.
DIY House Swap is completely free to use. It’s free to join, free to list your home (or other asset or service), and there are no paid tiers or premium memberships.
Maybe your home is in Australia and you’ve always wanted to spend a summer in Europe.
Perhaps you own a campervan or boat and would happily offer the use of it in exchange for a few weeks in someone else’s home.
Maybe you’re an experienced house sitter who can look after someone’s home, garden and pets while they’re away in exchange for somewhere to stay.
Or maybe your home sits empty for part of the year while you’re travelling — and you’d love to put that unused time towards your next adventure.
The idea is simple: help people with something to share find other people with something to share.
We provide the listings, information and practical resources to make those connections easier. We don’t approve or arrange swaps, handle money between users, or decide whether a particular swap is right for you.
You connect, you decide, you swap.
What We Don’t Do
DIY House Swap isn’t a property manager, rental agency, broker, insurer or travel agent.
We don’t inspect or approve homes or owners, guarantee swaps, hold payments, or mediate disputes.
Owners are responsible for doing their own due diligence and deciding whether a swap is right for them.

How It Works
- Homeowners create a listing
Listings provide information about the home, its location, the owner, and the conditions under which a swap would be considered. - Owners browse and connect
No matching, no rankings, no recommendations. Just information and an introduction. - Swaps are arranged privately
If both parties agree, they organise the swap themselves — using their own judgement, insurance, agreements and arrangements.
We provide structure and practical tools so you can DIY your house swap.
New to House Swapping?
Before listing your home or arranging a swap, take a few minutes to understand how the platform works and what to consider when swapping homes.
It covers responsibilities, insurance, agreements, house rules, handovers and the checks both owners should consider before agreeing to a swap.
Practical Tools
Once you’ve found someone you’d like to swap with, you don’t need to start from scratch.
Our practical toolkits include:
- House swap agreement templates
- Home handover checklists
- Insurance conversation prompts
They’re designed to help both owners cover the important details, ask the right questions and clearly document what they’ve agreed.
These are not advice or guarantees — just structure to save time and avoid reinventing paperwork.
